1. L'Eternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et dit:
2. Compte les fils de Kehath parmi les enfants de Lévi, selon leurs familles, selon les maisons de leurs pères,
3. depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, tous ceux qui sont propres à exercer quelque fonction dans la tente d'assignation.
4. Voici les fonctions des fils de Kehath, dans la tente d'assignation: elles concernent le lieu très saint.
5. Au départ du camp, Aaron et ses fils viendront démonter le voile, et ils en couvriront l'arche du témoignage;
6. ils mettront dessus une couverture de peaux de dauphins, et ils étendront par-dessus un drap entièrement d'étoffe bleue; puis ils placeront les barres de l'arche.
7. Ils étendront un drap bleu sur la table des pains de proposition, et ils mettront dessus les plats, les coupes, les tasses et les calices pour les libations; le pain y sera toujours;
8. ils étendront sur ces choses un drap de cramoisi, et ils l'envelopperont d'une couverture de peaux de dauphins; puis ils placeront les barres de la table.
9. Ils prendront un drap bleu, et ils couvriront le chandelier, ses lampes, ses mouchettes, ses vases à cendre et tous ses vases à huile, destinés à son service;
10. ils le mettront, avec tous ses ustensiles, dans une couverture de peaux de dauphins; puis ils le placeront sur le brancard.
11. Ils étendront un drap bleu sur l'autel d'or, et ils l'envelopperont d'une couverture de peaux de dauphins; puis ils placeront les barres de l'autel.
12. Ils prendront tous les ustensiles dont on se sert pour le service dans le sanctuaire, et ils les mettront dans un drap bleu, et ils les envelopperont d'une couverture de peaux de dauphins; puis ils les placeront sur le brancard.
13. Ils ôteront les cendres de l'autel, et ils étendront sur l'autel un drap de pourpre;
14. ils mettront dessus tous les ustensiles destinés à son service, les brasiers, les fourchettes, les pelles, les bassins, tous les ustensiles de l'autel, et ils étendront par-dessus une couverture de peaux de dauphins; puis ils placeront les barres de l'autel.
15. Après qu'Aaron et ses fils auront achevé de couvrir le sanctuaire et tous les ustensiles du sanctuaire, les fils de Kehath viendront, au départ du camp, pour les porter; mais ils ne toucheront point les choses saintes, de peur qu'ils ne meurent. Telles sont les fonctions de porteurs, imposées aux fils de Kehath dans la tente d'assignation.
16. Eléazar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron, aura sous sa surveillance l'huile du chandelier, le parfum odoriférant, l'offrande perpétuelle et l'huile d'onction; il aura sous sa surveillance tout le tabernacle et tout ce qu'il contient, le sanctuaire et ses ustensiles.
17. L'Eternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et dit:
18. N'exposez point la race des familles des Kehathites à être retranchée du milieu des Lévites.
19. Faites ceci pour eux, afin qu'ils vivent et qu'ils ne meurent point, quand ils s'approcheront du lieu très saint: Aaron et ses fils viendront, et ils placeront chacun d'eux à son service et à sa charge.
20. Ils n'entreront point pour voir envelopper les choses saintes, de peur qu'ils ne meurent.
21. L'Eternel parla à Moïse, et dit:
22. Compte aussi les fils de Guerschon, selon les maisons de leurs pères, selon leurs familles;
23. tu feras le dénombrement, depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, de tous ceux qui sont propres à exercer quelque fonction dans la tente d'assignation.
24. Voici les fonctions des familles des Guerschonites, le service qu'ils devront faire et ce qu'ils devront porter.
25. Ils porteront les tapis du tabernacle et la tente d'assignation, sa couverture et la couverture de peaux de dauphins qui se met par-dessus, le rideau qui est à l'entrée de la tente d'assignation;
26. les toiles du parvis et le rideau de l'entrée de la porte du parvis, tout autour du tabernacle et de l'autel, leurs cordages et tous les ustensiles qui en dépendent. Et ils feront tout le service qui s'y rapporte.
27. Dans leurs fonctions, les fils des Guerschonites seront sous les ordres d'Aaron et de ses fils, pour tout ce qu'ils porteront et pour tout le service qu'ils devront faire; vous remettrez à leurs soins tout ce qu'ils ont à porter.
28. Telles sont les fonctions des familles des fils des Guerschonites dans la tente d'assignation, et ce qu'ils ont à garder sous la direction d'Ithamar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron.
29. Tu feras le dénombrement des fils de Merari, selon leurs familles, selon les maisons de leurs pères;
30. tu feras le dénombrement, depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, de tous ceux qui sont propres à exercer quelque fonction dans la tente d'assignation.
31. Voici ce qui est remis à leurs soins et ce qu'ils ont à porter, pour toutes leurs fonctions dans la tente d'assignation: les planches du tabernacle, ses barres, ses colonnes, ses bases,
32. les colonnes du parvis formant l'enceinte, leurs bases, leurs pieux, leurs cordages, tous les ustensiles qui en dépendent et tout ce qui est destiné à leur service. Vous désignerez par leurs noms les objets qui sont remis à leurs soins et qu'ils ont à porter.
33. Telles sont les fonctions des familles des fils de Merari, toutes leurs fonctions dans la tente d'assignation, sous la direction d'Ithamar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron.
34. Moïse, Aaron et les princes de l'assemblée firent le dénombrement des fils des Kehathites, selon leurs familles et selon les maisons de leurs pères,
35. de tous ceux qui, depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, étaient propres à exercer quelque fonction dans la tente d'assignation.
36. Ceux dont ils firent le dénombrement, selon leurs familles, furent deux mille sept cent cinquante.
37. Tels sont ceux des familles des Kehathites dont on fit le dénombrement, tous ceux qui exerçaient des fonctions dans la tente d'assignation; Moïse et Aaron en firent le dénombrement sur l'ordre de l'Eternel par Moïse.
38. Les fils de Guerschon dont on fit le dénombrement, selon leurs familles et selon les maisons de leurs pères,
39. depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, tous ceux qui étaient propres à exercer quelque fonction dans la tente d'assignation,
40. ceux dont on fit le dénombrement, selon leurs familles, selon les maisons de leurs pères, furent deux mille six cent trente.
41. Tels sont ceux des familles des fils de Guerschon dont on fit le dénombrement, tous ceux qui exerçaient des fonctions dans la tente d'assignation; Moïse et Aaron en firent le dénombrement sur l'ordre de l'Eternel.
42. Ceux des familles des fils de Merari dont on fit le dénombrement, selon leurs familles, selon les maisons de leurs pères,
43. depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, tous ceux qui étaient propres à exercer quelque fonction dans la tente d'assignation,
44. ceux dont on fit le dénombrement, selon leurs familles, furent trois mille deux cents.
45. Tels sont ceux des familles des fils de Merari dont on fit le dénombrement; Moïse et Aaron en firent le dénombrement sur l'ordre de l'Eternel par Moïse.
46. Tous ceux des Lévites dont Moïse, Aaron et les princes d'Israël firent le dénombrement, selon leurs familles et selon les maisons de leurs pères,
47. depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus jusqu'à l'âge de cinquante ans, tous ceux qui étaient propres à exercer quelque fonction et à servir de porteurs dans la tente d'assignation,
48. tous ceux dont on fit le dénombrement furent huit mille cinq cent quatre-vingts.
49. On en fit le dénombrement sur l'ordre de l'Eternel par Moïse, en indiquant à chacun le service qu'il devait faire et ce qu'il devait porter; on en fit le dénombrement selon l'ordre que l'Eternel avait donné à Moïse.
1. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, and unto Aaron, saying,
2. `Take up the sum of the sons of Kohath from the midst of the sons of Levi, by their families, by the house of their fathers;
3. from a son of thirty years and upward, even till a son of fifty years, every one going in to the host, to do work in the tent of meeting.
4. `This [is] the service of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting, the holy of holies:
5. that Aaron and his sons have come in, in the journeying of the camp, and have taken down the vail of the hanging, and have covered with it the ark of the testimony;
6. and have put on it a covering of badger skin, and have spread a garment completely of blue above, and have placed its staves.
7. `And on the table of the presence they spread a garment of blue, and have put on it the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and the cups of the libation, and the bread of continuity is on it,
8. and they have spread over them a garment of scarlet, and have covered it with a covering of badger skin, and have placed its staves,
9. and have taken a garment of blue, and have covered the candlestick of the lamp, and its lights, and its snuffers, and its snuff-dishes, and all its oil vessels wherewith they minister to it;
10. and they have put it and all its vessels unto a covering of badger skin, and have put [it] on the bar.
11. `And on the golden altar they spread a garment of blue, and have covered it with a covering of badger skin, and have placed its staves;
12. and have taken all the vessels of ministry wherewith they minister in the sanctuary, and have put [them] unto a garment of blue, and have covered them with a covering of badger skin, and have put [them] on the bar,
13. and have removed the ashes of the altar, and have spread over it a garment of purple;
14. and have put on it all its vessels wherewith they minister about it, the censers, the hooks, and the shovels, and the bowls, all the vessels of the altar, and have spread on it a covering of badger skin, and have placed its staves:
15. `And Aaron hath finished -- his sons also -- covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, in the journeying of the camp, and afterwards do the sons of Kohath come in to bear [it], and they do not come unto the holy thing, that they have died; these [things are] the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting.
16. `And the oversight of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, [is] the oil of the lamp, and the spice-perfume, and the present of continuity, and the anointing oil, the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that [is] in it, in the sanctuary, and in its vessels.'
17. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
18. `Ye do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathite from the midst of the Levites;
19. but this do to them, and they have lived, and do not die in their drawing nigh the holy of holies: -- Aaron and his sons go in, and have set them, each man to his service, and unto his burden,
20. and they go not in to see when the holy thing is swallowed, that they have died.'
21. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
22. `Take up the sum of the sons of Gershon also by the house of their fathers, by their families;
23. from a son of thirty years and upward, till a son of fifty years thou dost number them, every one who is going in to serve the host, to do the service in the tent of meeting.
24. `This [is] the service of the families of the Gershonite, to serve -- and for burden,
25. and they have borne the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tent of meeting, its covering, and the covering of the badger [skin] which [is] on it above, and the vail at the opening of the tent of meeting,
26. and the hangings of the court, and the vail at the opening of the gate of the court which [is] by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and their cords, and all the vessels of their service, and all that is made for them -- and they have served.
27. `By the command of Aaron and his sons is all the service of the sons of the Gershonite in all their burden, and in all their service; and ye have laid a charge on them concerning the charge of all their burden.
28. This [is] the service of the families of the sons of the Gershonite in the tent of meeting; and their charge [is] under the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
29. `The sons of Merari, by their families, by the house of their fathers, thou dost number them;
30. from a son of thirty years and upward even unto a son of fifty years thou dost number them, every one who is going in to the host, to do the service of the tent of meeting.
31. `And this [is] the charge of their burden, of all their service in the tent of meeting; the boards of the tabernacle, and its bars, and its pillars, and its sockets,
32. and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, of all their vessels, and of all their service; and by name ye do number the vessels of the charge of their burden.
33. `This [is] the service of the families of the sons of Merari, for all their service, in the tent of meeting, by the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.'
34. And Moses numbereth -- Aaron also, and the princes of the company -- the sons of the Kohathite, by their families, and by the house of their fathers,
35. from a son of thirty years and upward even unto a son of fifty years, every one who is going in to the host, for service in the tent of meeting,
36. and their numbered ones, by their families, are two thousand seven hundred and fifty.
37. These [are] those numbered of the families of the Kohathite, every one who is serving in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, by the command of Jehovah, by the hand of Moses.
38. And those numbered of the sons of Gershon, by their families, and by the house of their fathers,
39. from a son of thirty years and upward even unto a son of fifty years, every one who is going in to the host, for service in the tent of meeting,
40. even their numbered ones, by their families, by the house of their fathers, are two thousand and six hundred and thirty.
41. These [are] those numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, every one who is serving in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered by the command of Jehovah.
42. And those numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, by their families, by the house of their fathers,
43. from a son of thirty years and upward even unto a son of fifty years, every one who is going in to the host, for service in the tent of meeting,
44. even their numbered ones, by their families, are three thousand and two hundred.
45. These [are] those numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, by the command of Jehovah, by the hand of Moses.
46. All those numbered, whom Moses numbered -- Aaron also, and the princes of Israel -- of the Levites, by their families, and by the house of their fathers,
47. from a son of thirty years and upward even unto a son of fifty years, every one who is going in to do the work of the service, even the service of burden in the tent of meeting,
48. even their numbered ones are eight thousand and five hundred and eighty;
49. by the command of Jehovah hath [one] numbered them, by the hand of Moses, each man by his service, and by his burden, with his numbered ones, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
