1. La trentième année, le cinquième jour du quatrième mois, comme j'étais parmi les captifs du fleuve du Kebar, les cieux s'ouvrirent, et j'eus des visions divines.
2. Le cinquième jour du mois, c'était la cinquième année de la captivité du roi Jojakin, -
3. la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Ezéchiel, fils de Buzi, le sacrificateur, dans le pays des Chaldéens, près du fleuve du Kebar; et c'est là que la main de l'Eternel fut sur lui.
4. Je regardai, et voici, il vint du septentrion un vent impétueux, une grosse nuée, et une gerbe de feu, qui répandait de tous côtés une lumière éclatante, au centre de laquelle brillait comme de l'airain poli, sortant du milieu du feu.
5. Au centre encore, apparaissaient quatre animaux, dont l'aspect avait une ressemblance humaine.
6. Chacun d'eux avait quatre faces, et chacun avait quatre ailes.
7. Leurs pieds étaient droits, et la plante de leurs pieds était comme celle du pied d'un veau, ils étincelaient comme de l'airain poli.
8. Ils avaient des mains d'homme sous les ailes à leurs quatre côtés; et tous les quatre avaient leurs faces et leurs ailes.
9. Leurs ailes étaient jointes l'une à l'autre; ils ne se tournaient point en marchant, mais chacun marchait droit devant soi.
10. Quant à la figure de leurs faces, ils avaient tous une face d'homme, tous quatre une face de lion à droite, tous quatre une face de boeuf à gauche, et tous quatre une face d'aigle.
11. Leurs faces et leurs ailes étaient séparées par le haut; deux de leurs ailes étaient jointes l'une à l'autre, et deux couvraient leurs corps.
12. Chacun marchait droit devant soi; ils allaient où l'esprit les poussait à aller, et ils ne se tournaient point dans leur marche.
13. L'aspect de ces animaux ressemblait à des charbons de feu ardents, c'était comme l'aspect des flambeaux, et ce feu circulait entre les animaux; il jetait une lumière éclatante, et il en sortait des éclairs.
14. Et les animaux couraient et revenaient comme la foudre.
15. Je regardais ces animaux; et voici, il y avait une roue sur la terre, près des animaux, devant leurs quatre faces.
16. A leur aspect et à leur structure, ces roues semblaient être en chrysolithe, et toutes les quatre avaient la même forme; leur aspect et leur structure étaient tels que chaque roue paraissait être au milieu d'une autre roue.
17. En cheminant, elles allaient de leurs quatre côtés, et elles ne se tournaient point dans leur marche.
18. Elles avaient une circonférence et une hauteur effrayantes, et à leur circonférence les quatre roues étaient remplies d'yeux tout autour.
19. Quand les animaux marchaient, les roues cheminaient à côté d'eux; et quand les animaux s'élevaient de terre, les roues s'élevaient aussi.
20. Ils allaient où l'esprit les poussait à aller; et les roues s'élevaient avec eux, car l'esprit des animaux était dans les roues.
21. Quand ils marchaient, elles marchaient; quand ils s'arrêtaient, elles s'arrêtaient; quand ils s'élevaient de terre, les roues s'élevaient avec eux, car l'esprit des animaux était dans les roues.
22. Au-dessus des têtes des animaux, il y avait comme un ciel de cristal resplendissant, qui s'étendait sur leurs têtes dans le haut.
23. Sous ce ciel, leurs ailes étaient droites l'une contre l'autre, et ils en avaient chacun deux qui les couvraient, chacun deux qui couvraient leurs corps.
24. J'entendis le bruit de leurs ailes, quand ils marchaient, pareil au bruit de grosses eaux, ou à la voix du Tout-Puissant; c'était un bruit tumultueux, comme celui d'une armée; quand ils s'arrêtaient, ils laissaient tomber leurs ailes.
25. Et il se faisait un bruit qui partait du ciel étendu sur leurs têtes, lorsqu'ils s'arrêtaient et laissaient tomber leurs ailes.
26. Au-dessus du ciel qui était sur leurs têtes, il y avait quelque chose de semblable à une pierre de saphir, en forme de trône; et sur cette forme de trône apparaissait comme une figure d'homme placé dessus en haut.
27. Je vis encore comme de l'airain poli, comme du feu, au dedans duquel était cet homme, et qui rayonnait tout autour; depuis la forme de ses reins jusqu'en haut, et depuis la forme de ses reins jusqu'en bas, je vis comme du feu, et comme une lumière éclatante, dont il était environné.
28. Tel l'aspect de l'arc qui est dans la nue en un jour de pluie, ainsi était l'aspect de cette lumière éclatante, qui l'entourait: c'était une image de la gloire de l'Eternel. A cette vue, je tombai sur ma face, et j'entendis la voix de quelqu'un qui parlait.
1. And it cometh to pass, in the thirtieth year, in the fourth [month], in the fifth of the month, and I [am] in the midst of the Removed by the river Chebar, the heavens have been opened, and I see visions of God.
2. In the fifth of the month -- it is the fifth year of the removal of the king Jehoiachin --
3. hath the word of Jehovah certainly been unto Ezekiel son of Buzi the priest, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chebar, and there is on him there a hand of Jehovah.
4. And I look, and lo, a tempestuous wind is coming from the north, a great cloud, and fire catching itself, and brightness to it round about, and out of its midst as the colour of copper, out of the midst of the fire.
5. And out of its midst [is] a likeness of four living creatures, and this [is] their appearance; a likeness of man [is] to them,
6. and four faces [are] to each, and four wings [are] to each of them,
7. and their feet [are] straight feet, and the sole of their feet [is] as a sole of a calf's foot, and they are sparkling as the colour of bright brass;
8. and hands of man under their wings -- on their four sides, and their faces and their wings -- [are] to them four;
9. joining one unto another [are] their wings, they turn not round in their going, each straight forward they go.
10. As to the likeness of their faces, the face of a man, and the face of a lion, toward the right [are] to them four, and the face of an ox on the left [are] to them four, and the face of an eagle [are] to them four.
11. And their faces and their wings are separate from above, to each [are] two joining together, and two are covering their bodies.
12. And each straight forward they go, whither the spirit is to go, they go, they turn not round in their going.
13. As to the likeness of the living creatures, their appearances [are] as coals of fire -- burning as the appearance of lamps; it is going up and down between the living creatures, and brightness [is] to the fire, and out of the fire is going forth lightning.
14. And the living creatures are running, and turning back, as the appearance of the flash.
15. And I see the living creatures, and lo, one wheel [is] in the earth, near the living creatures, at its four faces.
16. The appearance of the wheels and their works [is] as the colour of beryl, and one likeness [is] to them four, and their appearances and their works [are] as it were the wheel in the midst of the wheel.
17. On their four sides, in their going they go, they turn not round in their going.
18. As to their rings, they are both high and fearful, and their rings [are] full of eyes round about them four.
19. And in the going of the living creatures, the wheels go beside them, and in the living creatures being lifted up from off the earth, lifted up are the wheels.
20. Whither the spirit is to go, they go, thither the spirit [is] to go, and the wheels are lifted up over-against them, for a living spirit [is] in the wheels.
21. In their going, they go; and in their standing, they stand; and in their being lifted up from off the earth, lifted up are the wheels over-against them; for a living spirit [is] in the wheels.
22. And a likeness [is] over the heads of the living creatures of an expanse, as the colour of the fearful ice, stretched out over their heads from above.
23. And under the expanse their wings [are] straight, one toward the other, to each are two covering on this side, and to each are two covering on that side -- their bodies.
24. And I hear the noise of their wings, as the noise of many waters, as the noise of the Mighty One, in their going -- the noise of tumult, as the noise of a camp, in their standing they let fall their wings.
25. And there is a voice from above the expanse, that [is] above their head: in their standing they let fall their wings.
26. And above the expanse that [is] over their head, as an appearance of a sapphire stone, [is] the likeness of a throne, and on the likeness of the throne a likeness, as the appearance of man upon it from above.
27. And I see as the colour of copper, as the appearance of fire within it round about, from the appearance of his loins and upward, and from the appearance of his loins and downward, I have seen as the appearance of fire, and brightness [is] to it round about.
28. As the appearance of the bow that is in a cloud in a day of rain, so [is] the appearance of the brightness round about.
