1. Le vingt et unième jour du septième mois, la parole de l'Eternel se révéla par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:
2. Parle à Zorobabel, fils de Schealthiel, gouverneur de Juda, à Josué, fils de Jotsadak, le souverain sacrificateur, et au reste du peuple, et dis-leur:
3. Quel est parmi vous le survivant Qui ait vu cette maison dans sa gloire première? Et comment la voyez-vous maintenant? Telle qu'elle est, ne paraît-elle pas comme rien à vos yeux?
4. Maintenant fortifie-toi, Zorobabel! dit l'Eternel. Fortifie-toi, Josué, fils de Jotsadak, souverain sacrificateur! Fortifie-toi, peuple entier du pays! dit l'Eternel. Et travaillez! Car je suis avec vous, Dit l'Eternel des armées.
5. Je reste fidèle à l'alliance que j'ai faite avec vous Quand vous sortîtes de l'Egypte, Et mon esprit est au milieu de vous; Ne craignez pas!
6. Car ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Encore un peu de temps, Et j'ébranlerai les cieux et la terre, La mer et le sec;
7. J'ébranlerai toutes les nations; Les trésors de toutes les nations viendront, Et je remplirai de gloire cette maison, Dit l'Eternel des armées.
8. L'argent est à moi, et l'or est à moi, Dit l'Eternel des armées.
9. La gloire de cette dernière maison sera plus grande Que celle de la première, Dit l'Eternel des armées; Et c'est dans ce lieu que je donnerai la paix, Dit l'Eternel des armées.
10. le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Eternel se révéla par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:
11. Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Propose aux sacrificateurs cette question sur la loi:
12. Si quelqu'un porte dans le pan de son vêtement de la chair consacrée, et qu'il touche avec son vêtement du pain, des mets, du vin, de l'huile, ou un aliment quelconque, ces choses seront-elles sanctifiées? Les sacrificateurs répondirent: Non!
13. Et Aggée dit: Si quelqu'un souillé par le contact d'un cadavre touche toutes ces choses, seront-elles souillées? Les sacrificateurs répondirent: Elles seront souillées.
14. Alors Aggée, reprenant la parole, dit: Tel est ce peuple, telle est cette nation devant moi, dit l'Eternel, Telles sont toutes les oeuvres de leurs mains; Ce qu'ils m'offrent là est souillé.
15. Considérez donc attentivement Ce qui s'est passé jusqu'à ce jour, Avant qu'on eût mis pierre sur pierre au temple de l'Eternel!
16. Alors, quand on venait à un tas de vingt mesures, Il n'y en avait que dix; Quand on venait à la cuve pour puiser cinquante mesures, Il n'y en avait que vingt.
17. Je vous ai frappés par la rouille et par la nielle, et par la grêle; J'ai frappé tout le travail de vos mains. Malgré cela, vous n'êtes pas revenus à moi, dit l'Eternel.
18. Considérez attentivement Ce qui s'est passé jusqu'à ce jour, Jusqu'au vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, Depuis le jour où le temple de l'Eternel a été fondé, Considérez-le attentivement!
19. Y avait-il encore de la semence dans les greniers? Même la vigne, le figuier, le grenadier et l'olivier, N'ont rien rapporté. Mais dès ce jour je répandrai ma bénédiction.
20. La parole de l'Eternel fut adressée pour la seconde fois à Aggée, le vingt-quatrième jour du mois, en ces mots:
21. Parle à Zorobabel, gouverneur de Juda, et dis: J'ébranlerai les cieux et la terre;
22. Je renverserai le trône des royaumes, Je détruirai la force des royaumes des nations, Je renverserai les chars et ceux qui les montent; Les chevaux et leurs cavaliers seront abattus, L'un par l'épée de l'autre.
23. En ce jour-là, dit l'Eternel des armées, Je te prendrai, Zorobabel, fils de Schealthiel, Mon serviteur, dit l'Eternel, Et je te garderai comme un sceau; Car je t'ai choisi, dit l'Eternel des armées.
1. In the seventh [month], in the twenty and first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
2. `Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:
3. Who among you hath been left that saw this house in its former honour? And what are ye seeing it now? Is it not, compared with it, as nothing in your eyes?
4. And now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye -- (for I [am] with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --
5. The thing that I covenanted with you, In your coming forth from Egypt, And My Spirit is remaining in your midst, fear not.
6. For thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet once more -- it [is] a little, And I am shaking the heavens and the earth, And the sea, and the dry land,
7. And I have shaken all the nations, And they have come [to] the desire of all the nations, And I have filled this house [with] honour, Said Jehovah of Hosts.
8. Mine [is] the silver, and Mine the gold, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.
9. Greater is the honour of this latter house, Than of the former, said Jehovah of Hosts, And in this place do I give peace, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.'
10. On the twenty and fourth of the ninth [month], in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
11. Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Ask, I pray thee, the priests [of] the law, saying:
12. Lo, one doth carry holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and he hath come with his skirt against the bread, or against the pottage, or against the wine, or against the oil, or against any food -- is it holy?' And the priests answer and say, `No.'
13. And Haggai saith, `If the unclean of body doth come against any of these, is it unclean?' And the priests answer and say, `It is unclean.'
14. And Haggai answereth and saith, `So [is] this people, and so [is] this nation before Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and so [is] every work of their hands, and that which they bring near there -- it is unclean.
15. And now, lay [it], I pray you, to your heart, From this day, and onwards, Before the laying of stone to stone in the temple of Jehovah.
16. From that time [one] hath come to a heap of twenty, And it hath been ten, He hath come unto the wine-fat to draw out fifty purahs, And it hath been twenty.
17. I have smitten you with blasting, And with mildew, and with hail -- All the work of your hands, And there is none of you with Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.
18. Set [it], I pray you, to your heart, from this day and onwards, from the twenty and fourth day of the ninth [month], even from the day that the temple of Jehovah hath been founded, set [it] to your heart.
19. Is the seed yet in the barn? And hitherto the vine and the fig, And the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, Have not borne -- from this day I bless.'
20. And there is a word of Jehovah a second time unto Haggai, on the twenty and fourth of the month, saying:
21. `Speak unto Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying: I am shaking the heavens and the earth,
22. And have overturned the throne of kingdoms, And I have destroyed the strength of kingdoms of the nations, And overturned chariot and its charioteers, And come down have horses and their riders, Each by the sword of his brother.
23. In that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I take thee, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And have set thee as a signet, for on thee I have fixed, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!
