1. La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
2. Tu ne prendras point de femme, Et tu n'auras dans ce lieu ni fils ni filles.
3. Car ainsi parle l'Eternel sur les fils et les filles Qui naîtront en ce lieu, Sur leurs mères qui les auront enfantés, Et sur leurs pères qui les auront engendrés dans ce pays:
4. Ils mourront consumés par la maladie; On ne leur donnera ni larmes ni sépulture; Ils seront comme du fumier sur la terre; Ils périront par l'épée et par la famine; Et leurs cadavres serviront de pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
5. Car ainsi parle l'Eternel: N'entre pas dans une maison de deuil, N'y va pas pleurer, te lamenter avec eux; Car j'ai retiré à ce peuple ma paix, dit l'Eternel, Ma bonté et ma miséricorde.
6. Grands et petits mourront dans ce pays; On ne leur donnera point de sépulture; On ne les pleurera point, On ne se fera point d'incision, Et l'on ne se rasera pas pour eux.
7. On ne rompra pas le pain dans le deuil Pour consoler quelqu'un au sujet d'un mort, Et l'on n'offrira pas la coupe de consolation Pour un père ou pour une mère.
8. N'entre pas non plus dans une maison de festin, Pour t'asseoir avec eux, Pour manger et pour boire.
9. Car ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je ferai cesser dans ce lieu, sous vos yeux et de vos jours, Les cris de réjouissance et les cris d'allégresse, Les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée.
10. Lorsque tu annonceras à ce peuple toutes ces choses, Ils te diront: Pourquoi l'Eternel nous menace-t-il de tous ces grands malheurs? Quelle est notre iniquité? Quel péché avons-nous commis contre l'Eternel, notre Dieu?
11. Alors tu leur répondras: Vos pères m'ont abandonné, dit l'Eternel, Ils sont allés après d'autres dieux, Ils les ont servis et se sont prosternés devant eux; Ils m'ont abandonné, et n'ont point observé ma loi.
12. Et vous, vous avez fait le mal plus encore que vos pères; Et voici, vous suivez chacun les penchants de votre mauvais coeur, Pour ne point m'écouter.
13. Je vous transporterai de ce pays Dans un pays que vous n'avez point connu, Ni vous, ni vos pères; Et là, vous servirez les autres dieux jour et nuit, Car je ne vous accorderai point de grâce.
14. C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où l'on ne dira plus: L'Eternel est vivant, Lui qui a fait monter du pays d'Egypte les enfants d'Israël!
15. Mais on dira: L'Eternel est vivant, Lui qui a fait monter les enfants d'Israël du pays du septentrion Et de tous les pays où il les avait chassés! Je les ramènerai dans leur pays, Que j'avais donné à leurs pères.
16. Voici, j'envoie une multitude de pêcheurs, dit l'Eternel, et ils les pêcheront; Et après cela j'enverrai une multitude de chasseurs, et ils les chasseront De toutes les montagnes et de toutes les collines, Et des fentes des rochers.
17. Car mes yeux sont attentifs à toutes leurs voies, Elles ne sont point cachées devant ma face, Et leur iniquité ne se dérobe point à mes regards.
18. Je leur donnerai d'abord le double salaire de leur iniquité et de leur péché, Parce qu'ils ont profané mon pays, Parce qu'ils ont rempli mon héritage Des cadavres de leurs idoles et de leurs abominations.
19. Eternel, ma force et mon appui, mon refuge au jour de la détresse! Les nations viendront à toi des extrémités de la terre, Et elles diront: Nos pères n'ont hérité que le mensonge, De vaines idoles, qui ne servent à rien.
20. L'homme peut-il se faire des dieux, Qui ne sont pas des dieux? -
21. C'est pourquoi voici, je leur fais connaître, cette fois, Je leur fais connaître ma puissance et ma force; Et ils sauront que mon nom est l'Eternel.
1. And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying:
2. Thou dost not take to thee a wife, Nor hast thou sons and daughters in this place.
3. For thus said Jehovah, Of the sons and of the daughters who are born in this place, And of their mothers -- those bearing them, And of their fathers -- those begetting them in this land:
4. Of painful deaths they die, They are not lamented, nor are they buried, For dung on the face of the ground they are, And by sword and by famine are consumed, And their carcase hath been for food To the fowl of the heavens, And to the beast of the earth.
5. For thus said Jehovah: Do not enter the house of a mourning-feast, Nor go to lament nor bemoan for them, For I have removed My peace from this people, An affirmation of Jehovah, The kindness and the mercies.
6. And died have great and small in this land, They are not buried, and none lament for them, Nor doth any cut himself, nor become bald for them.
7. Nor do they deal out to them for mourning, To comfort him concerning the dead, Nor cause them to drink a cup of consolations For his father and for his mother.
8. A house of banqueting thou dost not enter, To sit with them, to eat and to drink,
9. For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am causing to cease from this place, Before your eyes, and in your days, The voice of joy, and the voice of rejoicing, The voice of bridegroom and voice of bride.
10. And it hath come to pass when thou declarest to this people all these words, and they have said unto thee, `For what hath Jehovah spoken against us all this great evil? yea, what [is] our iniquity, and what our sin, that we have sinned against Jehovah our God?'
11. Then thou hast said unto them: Because that your fathers have forsaken Me, An affirmation of Jehovah, And go after other gods, and serve them, And they bow themselves to them, And Me have forsaken, and My law not kept,
12. Ye also have done evil above your fathers, And lo, ye are walking each after the stubbornness of his evil heart, So as not to hearken unto Me.
13. And I have cast you from off this land, On to a land that ye have not known, Ye and your fathers, And ye have served there other gods by day and by night, Where I do not give to you grace.
14. Therefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it is not said any more: `Jehovah liveth, who brought up The sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt,'
15. But, `Jehovah liveth, who brought up The sons of Israel out of the land of the north, And out of all the lands whither He drove them,' And I have brought them back to their land, That I gave to their fathers.
16. Lo, I am sending for many fishers, An affirmation of Jehovah, And they have fished them, And after this I send for many hunters, And they have hunted them from off every mountain, And from off every hill, and from holes of the rocks.
17. For Mine eyes [are] upon all their ways, They have not been hidden from My face, Nor hath their iniquity been concealed from before Mine eyes.
18. And I have recompensed a first -- A second time -- their iniquity and their sin, Because of their polluting My land, With the carcase of their detestable things, Yea, their abominable things have filled Mine inheritance.
19. O Jehovah, my strength, and my fortress, And my refuge in a day of adversity, Unto Thee nations do come from the ends of earth, And say, Only falsehood did our fathers inherit, Vanity, and none among them is profitable.
20. Doth man make for himself gods, And they -- no gods?
21. Therefore, lo, I am causing them to know at this time, I cause them to know My hand and My might, And they have known that My name [is] Jehovah!
