1. Puis un rameau sortira du tronc d'Isaï, Et un rejeton naîtra de ses racines.
2. L'Esprit de l'Eternel reposera sur lui: Esprit de sagesse et d'intelligence, Esprit de conseil et de force, Esprit de connaissance et de crainte de l'Eternel.
3. Il respirera la crainte de l'Eternel; Il ne jugera point sur l'apparence, Il ne prononcera point sur un ouï-dire.
4. Mais il jugera les pauvres avec équité, Et il prononcera avec droiture sur les malheureux de la terre; Il frappera la terre de sa parole comme d'une verge, Et du souffle de ses lèvres il fera mourir le méchant.
5. La justice sera la ceinture de ses flancs, Et la fidélité la ceinture de ses reins.
6. Le loup habitera avec l'agneau, Et la panthère se couchera avec le chevreau; Le veau, le lionceau, et le bétail qu'on engraisse, seront ensemble, Et un petit enfant les conduira.
7. La vache et l'ourse auront un même pâturage, Leurs petits un même gîte; Et le lion, comme le boeuf, mangera de la paille.
8. Le nourrisson s'ébattra sur l'antre de la vipère, Et l'enfant sevré mettra sa main dans la caverne du basilic.
9. Il ne se fera ni tort ni dommage Sur toute ma montagne sainte; Car la terre sera remplie de la connaissance de l'Eternel, Comme le fond de la mer par les eaux qui le couvrent.
10. En ce jour, le rejeton d'Isaï Sera là comme une bannière pour les peuples; Les nations se tourneront vers lui, Et la gloire sera sa demeure.
11. Dans ce même temps, le Seigneur étendra une seconde fois sa main, Pour racheter le reste de son peuple, Dispersé en Assyrie et en Egypte, A Pathros et en Ethiopie, A Elam, à Schinear et à Hamath, Et dans les îles de la mer.
12. Il élèvera une bannière pour les nations, Il rassemblera les exilés d'Israël, Et il recueillera les dispersés de Juda, Des quatre extrémités de la terre.
13. La jalousie d'Ephraïm disparaîtra, Et ses ennemis en Juda seront anéantis; Ephraïm ne sera plus jaloux de Juda, Et Juda ne sera plus hostile à Ephraïm.
14. Ils voleront sur l'épaule des Philistins à l'occident, Ils pilleront ensemble les fils de l'Orient; Edom et Moab seront la proie de leurs mains, Et les fils d'Ammon leur seront assujettis.
15. L'Eternel desséchera la langue de la mer d'Egypte, Et il lèvera sa main sur le fleuve, en soufflant avec violence: Il le partagera en sept canaux, Et on le traversera avec des souliers.
16. Et il y aura une route pour le reste de son peuple, Qui sera échappé de l'Assyrie, Comme il y en eut une pour Israël, Le jour où il sortit du pays d'Egypte.
1. And a rod hath come out from the stock of Jesse, And a branch from his roots is fruitful.
2. Rested on him hath the Spirit of Jehovah, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and fear of Jehovah.
3. To refresh him in the fear of Jehovah, And by the sight of his eyes he judgeth not, Nor by the hearing of his ears decideth.
4. And he hath judged in righteousness the poor, And decided in uprightness for the humble of earth, And hath smitten earth with the rod of his mouth, And with the breath of his lips he putteth the wicked to death.
5. And righteousness hath been the girdle of his loins, And faithfulness -- the girdle of his reins.
6. And a wolf hath sojourned with a lamb, And a leopard with a kid doth lie down, And calf, and young lion, and fatling [are] together, And a little youth is leader over them.
7. And cow and bear do feed, Together lie down their young ones, And a lion as an ox eateth straw.
8. And played hath a suckling by the hole of an asp, And on the den of a cockatrice Hath the weaned one put his hand.
9. Evil they do not, nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For full hath been the earth with the knowledge of Jehovah, As the waters are covering the sea.
10. And there hath been, in that day, A root of Jesse that is standing for an ensign of peoples, Unto him do nations seek, And his rest hath been -- honour!
11. And it hath come to pass, in that day, The Lord addeth a second time his power, To get the remnant of His people that is left, From Asshur, and from Egypt, And from Pathros, and from Cush, And from Elam, and from Shinar, And from Hamath, and from isles of the sea,
12. And He hath lifted up an ensign to nations, And gathereth the driven away of Israel, And the scattered of Judah He assembleth, From the four wings of the earth.
13. And turned aside hath the envy of Ephraim, And the adversaries of Judah are cut off, Ephraim doth not envy Judah, And Judah doth not distress Ephraim.
14. And they have flown on the shoulder of the Philistines westward, Together they spoil the sons of the east, Edom and Moab sending forth their hand, And sons of Ammon obeying them.
15. And Jehovah hath devoted to destruction The tongue of the sea of Egypt, And hath waved His hand over the river, In the terror of his wind, And hath smitten it at the seven streams, And hath caused [men] to tread [it] with shoes.
16. And there hath been a highway, For the remnant of His people that is left, from Asshur, As there was for Israel in the day of his coming up out of the land of Egypt!
