1. De David. Ne t'irrite pas contre les méchants, N'envie pas ceux qui font le mal.
2. Car ils sont fauchés aussi vite que l'herbe, Et ils se flétrissent comme le gazon vert.
3. Confie-toi en l'Eternel, et pratique le bien; Aie le pays pour demeure et la fidélité pour pâture.
4. Fais de l'Eternel tes délices, Et il te donnera ce que ton coeur désire.
5. Recommande ton sort à l'Eternel, Mets en lui ta confiance, et il agira.
6. Il fera paraître ta justice comme la lumière, Et ton droit comme le soleil à son midi.
7. Garde le silence devant l'Eternel, et espère en lui; Ne t'irrite pas contre celui qui réussit dans ses voies, Contre l'homme qui vient à bout de ses mauvais desseins.
8. Laisse la colère, abandonne la fureur; Ne t'irrite pas, ce serait mal faire.
9. Car les méchants seront retranchés, Et ceux qui espèrent en l'Eternel posséderont le pays.
10. Encore un peu de temps, et le méchant n'est plus; Tu regardes le lieu où il était, et il a disparu.
11. Les misérables possèdent le pays, Et ils jouissent abondamment de la paix.
12. Le méchant forme des projets contre le juste, Et il grince des dents contre lui.
13. Le Seigneur se rit du méchant, Car il voit que son jour arrive.
14. Les méchants tirent le glaive, Ils bandent leur arc, Pour faire tomber le malheureux et l'indigent, Pour égorger ceux dont la voie est droite.
15. Leur glaive entre dans leur propre coeur, Et leurs arcs se brisent.
16. Mieux vaut le peu du juste Que l'abondance de beaucoup de méchants;
17. Car les bras des méchants seront brisés, Mais l'Eternel soutient les justes.
18. L'Eternel connaît les jours des hommes intègres, Et leur héritage dure à jamais.
19. Ils ne sont pas confondus au temps du malheur, Et ils sont rassasiés aux jours de la famine.
20. Mais les méchants périssent, Et les ennemis de l'Eternel, comme les plus beaux pâturages; Ils s'évanouissent, ils s'évanouissent en fumée.
21. Le méchant emprunte, et il ne rend pas; Le juste est compatissant, et il donne.
22. Car ceux que bénit l'Eternel possèdent le pays, Et ceux qu'il maudit sont retranchés.
23. L'Eternel affermit les pas de l'homme, Et il prend plaisir à sa voie;
24. S'il tombe, il n'est pas terrassé, Car l'Eternel lui prend la main.
25. J'ai été jeune, j'ai vieilli; Et je n'ai point vu le juste abandonné, Ni sa postérité mendiant son pain.
26. Toujours il est compatissant, et il prête; Et sa postérité est bénie.
27. Détourne-toi du mal, fais le bien, Et possède à jamais ta demeure.
28. Car l'Eternel aime la justice, Et il n'abandonne pas ses fidèles; Ils sont toujours sous sa garde, Mais la postérité des méchants est retranchée.
29. Les justes posséderont le pays, Et ils y demeureront à jamais.
30. La bouche du juste annonce la sagesse, Et sa langue proclame la justice.
31. La loi de son Dieu est dans son coeur; Ses pas ne chancellent point.
32. Le méchant épie le juste, Et il cherche à le faire mourir.
33. L'Eternel ne le laisse pas entre ses mains, Et il ne le condamne pas quand il est en jugement.
34. Espère en l'Eternel, garde sa voie, Et il t'élèvera pour que tu possèdes le pays; Tu verras les méchants retranchés.
35. J'ai vu le méchant dans toute sa puissance; Il s'étendait comme un arbre verdoyant.
36. Il a passé, et voici, il n'est plus; Je le cherche, et il ne se trouve plus.
37. Observe celui qui est intègre, et regarde celui qui est droit; Car il y a une postérité pour l'homme de paix.
38. Mais les rebelles sont tous anéantis, La postérité des méchants est retranchée.
39. Le salut des justes vient de l'Eternel; Il est leur protecteur au temps de la détresse.
40. L'Eternel les secourt et les délivre; Il les délivre des méchants et les sauve, Parce qu'ils cherchent en lui leur refuge.
1. By David. Do not fret because of evil doers, Be not envious against doers of iniquity,
2. For as grass speedily they are cut off, And as the greenness of the tender grass do fade.
3. Trust in Jehovah, and do good, Dwell [in] the land, and enjoy faithfulness,
4. And delight thyself on Jehovah, And He giveth to thee the petitions of thy heart.
5. Roll on Jehovah thy way, And trust upon Him, and He worketh,
6. And hath brought out as light thy righteousness, And thy judgment as noon-day.
7. Be silent for Jehovah, and stay thyself for Him, Do not fret because of him Who is making prosperous his way, Because of a man doing wicked devices.
8. Desist from anger, and forsake fury, Fret not thyself only to do evil.
9. For evil doers are cut off, As to those waiting on Jehovah, they possess the land.
10. And yet a little, and the wicked is not, And thou hast considered his place, and it is not.
11. And the humble do possess the land, And they have delighted themselves In the abundance of peace.
12. The wicked is devising against the righteous, And gnashing against him his teeth.
13. The Lord doth laugh at him, For He hath seen that his day cometh.
14. A sword have the wicked opened, And they have trodden their bow, To cause to fall the poor and needy, To slaughter the upright of the way.
15. Their sword doth enter into their own heart, And their bows are shivered.
16. Better [is] the little of the righteous, Than the store of many wicked.
17. For the arms of the wicked are shivered, And Jehovah is sustaining the righteous.
18. Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect, And their inheritance is -- to the age.
19. They are not ashamed in a time of evil, And in days of famine they are satisfied.
20. But the wicked perish, and the enemies of Jehovah, As the preciousness of lambs, Have been consumed, In smoke they have been consumed.
21. The wicked is borrowing and repayeth not, And the righteous is gracious and giving.
22. For His blessed ones do possess the land, And His reviled ones are cut off.
23. From Jehovah [are] the steps of a man, They have been prepared, And his way he desireth.
24. When he falleth, he is not cast down, For Jehovah is sustaining his hand.
25. Young I have been, I have also become old, And I have not seen the righteous forsaken, And his seed seeking bread.
26. All the day he is gracious and lending, And his seed [is] for a blessing.
27. Turn aside from evil, and do good, and dwell to the age.
28. For Jehovah is loving judgment, And He doth not forsake His saintly ones, To the age they have been kept, And the seed of the wicked is cut off.
29. The righteous possess the land, And they dwell for ever on it.
30. The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, And his tongue speaketh judgment.
31. The law of his God [is] his heart, His steps do not slide.
32. The wicked is watching for the righteous, And is seeking to put him to death.
33. Jehovah doth not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him in his being judged.
34. Look unto Jehovah, and keep His way, And He doth exalt thee to possess the land, In the wicked being cut off -- thou seest!
35. I have seen the wicked terrible, And spreading as a green native plant,
36. And he passeth away, and lo, he is not, And I seek him, and he is not found!
37. Observe the perfect, and see the upright, For the latter end of each [is] peace.
38. And transgressors were destroyed together, The latter end of the wicked was cut off.
39. And the salvation of the righteous [is] from Jehovah, Their strong place in a time of adversity.
40. And Jehovah doth help them and deliver them, He delivereth them from the wicked, And saveth them, Because they trusted in Him!
