1. Voici la postérité d'Esaü, qui est Edom.

2. Esaü prit ses femmes parmi les filles de Canaan: Ada, fille d'Elon, le Héthien; Oholibama, fille d'Ana, fille de Tsibeon, le Hévien;

3. et Basmath, fille d'Ismaël, soeur de Nebajoth.

4. Ada enfanta à Esaü Eliphaz; Basmath enfanta Réuel;

5. et Oholibama enfanta Jéusch, Jaelam et Koré. Ce sont là les fils d'Esaü, qui lui naquirent dans le pays de Canaan.

6. Esaü prit ses femmes, ses fils et ses filles, toutes les personnes de sa maison, ses troupeaux, tout son bétail, et tout le bien qu'il avait acquis au pays de Canaan, et il s'en alla dans un autre pays, loin de Jacob, son frère.

7. Car leurs richesses étaient trop considérables pour qu'ils demeurassent ensemble, et la contrée où ils séjournaient ne pouvait plus leur suffire à cause de leurs troupeaux.

8. Esaü s'établit dans la montagne de Séir. Esaü, c'est Edom.

9. Voici la postérité d'Esaü, père d'Edom, dans la montagne de Séir.

10. Voici les noms des fils d'Esaü: Eliphaz, fils d'Ada, femme d'Esaü; Réuel, fils de Basmath, femme d'Esaü.

11. Les fils d'Eliphaz furent: Théman, Omar, Tsepho, Gaetham et Kenaz.

12. Et Thimna était la concubine d'Eliphaz, fils d'Esaü: elle enfanta à Eliphaz Amalek. Ce sont là les fils d'Ada, femme d'Esaü.

13. Voici les fils de Réuel: Nahath, Zérach, Schamma et Mizza. Ce sont là les fils de Basmath, femme d'Esaü.

14. Voici les fils d'Oholibama, fille d'Ana, fille de Tsibeon, femme d'Esaü: elle enfanta à Esaü Jéusch, Jaelam et Koré.

15. Voici les chefs de tribus issues des fils d'Esaü. -Voici les fils d'Eliphaz, premier-né d'Esaü: le chef Théman, le chef Omar, le chef Tsepho, le chef Kenaz,

16. le chef Koré, le chef Gaetham, le chef Amalek. Ce sont là les chefs issus d'Eliphaz, dans le pays d'Edom. Ce sont les fils d'Ada.

17. Voici les fils de Réuel, fils d'Esaü: le chef Nahath, le chef Zérach, le chef Schamma, le chef Mizza. Ce sont là les chefs issus de Réuel, dans le pays d'Edom. Ce sont là les fils de Basmath, femme d'Esaü.

18. Voici les fils d'Oholibama, femme d'Esaü: le chef Jéusch, le chef Jaelam, le chef Koré. Ce sont là les chefs issus d'Oholibama, fille d'Ana, femme d'Esaü.

19. Ce sont là les fils d'Esaü, et ce sont là leurs chefs de tribus. Esaü, c'est Edom.

20. Voici les fils de Séir, le Horien, anciens habitants du pays: Lothan, Schobal, Tsibeon, Ana,

21. Dischon, Etser, et Dischan. Ce sont là les chefs des Horiens, fils de Séir, dans le pays d'Edom.

22. Les fils de Lothan furent: Hori et Hémam. La soeur de Lothan fut Thimna.

23. Voici les fils de Schobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Schepho et Onam.

24. Voici les fils de Tsibeon: Ajja et Ana. C'est cet Ana qui trouva les sources chaudes dans le désert, quand il faisait paître les ânes de Tsibeon, son père.

25. Voici les enfants d'Ana: Dischon, et Oholibama, fille d'Ana.

26. Voici les fils de Dischon: Hemdan, Eschban, Jithran et Karen.

27. Voici les fils d'Etser: Bilhan, Zaavan et Akan.

28. Voici les fils de Dischan: Uts et Aran.

29. Voici les chefs des Horiens: le chef Lothan, le chef Schobal, le chef Tsibeon, le chef Ana,

30. le chef Dischon, le chef Etser, le chef Dischan. Ce sont là les chefs des Horiens, les chefs qu'ils eurent dans le pays de Séir.

31. Voici les rois qui ont régné dans le pays d'Edom, avant qu'un roi régnât sur les enfants d'Israël.

32. Béla, fils de Béor, régna sur Edom; et le nom de sa ville était Dinhaba.

33. Béla mourut; et Jobab, fils de Zérach, de Botsra, régna à sa place.

34. Jobab mourut; et Huscham, du pays des Thémanites, régna à sa place.

35. Huscham mourut; et Hadad, fils de Bedad, régna à sa place. C'est lui qui frappa Madian dans les champs de Moab. Le nom de sa ville était Avith.

36. Hadad mourut; et Samla, de Masréka, régna à sa place.

37. Samla mourut; et Saül, de Rehoboth sur le fleuve, régna à sa place.

38. Saül mourut; et Baal-Hanan, fils d'Acbor, régna à sa place.

39. Baal-Hanan, fils d'Acbor, mourut; et Hadar régna à sa place. Le nom de sa ville était Pau; et le nom de sa femme Mehéthabeel, fille de Mathred, fille de Mézahab.

40. Voici les noms des chefs issus d'Esaü, selon leurs tribus, selon leurs territoires, et d'après leurs noms: le chef Thimna, le chef Alva, le chef Jetheth,

41. le chef Oholibama, le chef Ela, le chef Pinon,

42. le chef Kenaz, le chef Théman, le chef Mibtsar,

43. le chef Magdiel, le chef Iram. Ce sont là les chefs d'Edom, selon leurs habitations dans le pays qu'ils possédaient. C'est là Esaü, père d'Edom.

1. Now these are the generations of Esau, that is to say, Edom.

2. Esau's wives were women of Canaan: Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite,

3. And Basemath, Ishmael's daughter, the sister of Nebaioth.

4. Adah had a son Eliphaz; and Basemath was the mother of Reuel;

5. Oholibamah was the mother of Jeush, Jalam, and Korah; these are the sons of Esau, whose birth took place in the land of Canaan.

6. Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters, and all the people of his house, and his beasts and his cattle and all his goods which he had got together in the land of Canaan, and went into the land of Seir, away from his brother Jacob.

7. For their wealth was so great that the land was not wide enough for the two of them and all their cattle.

8. So Esau made his living-place in the hill-country of Seir (Esau is Edom).

9. And these are the generations of Esau, the father of the Edomites in the hill-country of Seir:

10. These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau's wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau's wife Basemath.

11. The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

12. And Eliphaz, the son of Esau, had connection with a woman named Timna, who gave birth to Amalek: all these were the children of Esau's wife Adah.

13. And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: they were the children of Esau's wife Basemath.

14. And these are the sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon: she was the mother of Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

15. These were the chiefs among the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz, Esau's first son: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

16. Korah, Gatam, Amalek: all these were chiefs in the land of Edom, the offspring of Eliphaz, the seed of Adah.

17. And these are the sons of Esau's son Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, Mizzah: these were the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom, the children of Esau's wife Basemath.

18. And these are the sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah: these were the chiefs who came from Esau's wife Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.

19. These were the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these were their chiefs.

20. These are the sons of Seir the Horite who were living in that country; Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

21. Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan: these are the chiefs of the Horites, offspring of Seir in the land of Edom.

22. The children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; Lotan's sister was Timna.

23. And these are the children of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

24. And these are the children of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah; that same Anah who made the discovery of the water-springs in the waste land, when he was looking after the asses of his father Zibeon.

25. And these are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah his daughter.

26. These are the children of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.

27. These are the children of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.

28. These are the children of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

29. These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

30. Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Such were the Horite chiefs in their order in the land of Seir.

31. And these are the kings who were ruling in the land of Edom before there was any king over the children of Israel.

32. Bela, son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of his chief town was Dinhabah.

33. At his death, Jobab, son of Zerah of Bozrah, became king in his place.

34. And at the death of Jobab, Husham, from the country of the Temanites, became king in his place.

35. And at the death of Husham, Hadad, son of Bedad, who overcame the Midianites in the field of Moab, became king; his chief town was named Avith.

36. And at the death of Hadad, Samlah of Masrekah became king.

37. And at the death of Samlah, Shaul of Rehoboth by the River became king in his place.

38. And at the death of Shaul, Baal-hanan, son of Achbor, became king.

39. And at the death of Baal-hanan, Hadar became king in his place; his chief town was named Pau, and his wife's name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-zahab.

40. These are the names of the chiefs of Esau in the order of their families and their places: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

41. Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

42. Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

43. Magdiel, Iram; these are the Edomite chiefs, in their places in their heritage; this is Esau, the father of the Edomites.
